CBSE Class 11 Syllabus
CBSE Class 11 Syllabus
This page contains the CBSE Class 11 syllabus for the academic session 2026-27, as prescribed by CBSE curriculum.
The CBSE Class 11 syllabus plays an important role because it lays the academic foundation for senior secondary education. It introduces students to more specialised and concept-based learning and helps them begin focused preparation in the stream and subjects they plan to continue further.
For many students, Class 11 is the stage where subject choices become more meaningful. The syllabus helps them understand the scope of each subject, manage their study time properly, and build clarity before entering the board-examination year.
CBSE treats Classes XI and XII as a composite course. This means students are expected to choose in Class 11 the subjects they intend to continue in Class 12. Under the official senior secondary scheme, students study language options along with academic electives and may also combine academic and skill electives according to the permitted subject structure.
The official academic elective list for the senior secondary level includes Accountancy, Biology, Biotechnology, Business Studies, Chemistry, Computer Science, Economics, Engineering Graphics, Entrepreneurship, Fine Arts, Geography, History, Home Science, Informatics Practices, Legal Studies, Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, Physical Education, Physics, Political Science, Psychology, and Sociology, alongside language choices such as English Core, English Elective, Hindi Core, Hindi Elective, Sanskrit Core, Sanskrit Elective, Urdu Core, and Urdu Elective, among others.
CBSE also provides a broad skill-education framework for Classes XI and XII. Students may find skill-oriented options such as Retail, Information Technology, Web Applications, Tourism, Agriculture, Banking, Marketing, Business Administration, Mass Media Studies, Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, Yoga, and several other vocational courses depending on school availability.
The Class 11 syllabus is important because it helps students build concepts carefully before they move to the higher demands of Class 12. A student who studies according to the syllabus from the beginning is usually better prepared for deeper understanding, better revision habits, and a smoother transition into the final board year.
